Unveiling the Ziarat Zhay Pakistan army operation through the eyes of Manzoor Pashteen
Pakistan Army has successfully pulled off many army operations in areas surrounding Waziristan, as a result of which millions of Pashtuns were shifted to various other areas of Pakistan leaving behind their homes and businesses. The government promised to pay hefty compensation each month when the Pashtuns were relocated to camps, but the claims were far from reality. Because of this, protests broke out throughout Pakistan. Torture,
violent rebuking, thrashing became an everyday scene particularly in
Sindh. The area of Waziristan which was vacated by the army was illicitly
occupied by them and gradually became a source for them to quench their
commercial thirst. The army squatted upon and plundered their natural
resources and deprived the owners of their own resources.
There is also an incident of Ziyarat Zhai at the time of army operation which was mentioned by PTM activist Manzoor Pashteen in an interview with Anees Farooqui some 4 years ago.
Let's unveil the truth!
On 19th September 2015, Pakistan army dropped bombs on the houses of civilians with the help of US drones in Ziyarat Zhay area of tehsil Sarwakai of South Waziristan. Four women and five children were martyred in the bombing. Two of those five children were below the age of 2 years. Their bodies were shattered into such small pieces that people of the area could put them in sacks and bury them. One of the fathers were busy gathering the remains of their daughter’s dead bodies for their burial. Then he touched one of those hands drowned in blood and saw a ring in her hand. He remembered that the ring was his elder daughter’s because he bought it for her on Eid-Ul-Fitr. After which he fell unconscious. Eyes were swollen and hearts were filled with umpteen pain.
Next day after the incident, it was published in all the newspapers of Pakistan including international newspaper BBC that in the massive success of the Pakistani Air Forces, the bombing of Ziyarat, 22 terrorists were killed.
Interestingly, only a single online news portal named Tanqeed had some guts to put forth the story of locals and according to the portal, as many as nine people of the same family were killed as a result of the bombardment in Ziarat Zhay, a section of South Waziristan’s subdivision, Sarwakai. They were laid to rest at Lewanaye cemetery. Another three were killed in Kanday Ghar and one in Toor Mandi. Approximately six-year-old Armanullah, son of Nemat Ullah, was severely wounded. To go by the details, the women and children killed in Ziarat Zhay belonged to Abdul Manan Ashangai’s family. Three women, four girls and two children breathed their last while being entrapped under the rubble.
The eye witnesses confirmed that those killed include Abdul Manan’s wife, ten-year-old son Amanullah, six-year-old daughter Nadia; brother Haleem’s wife and his ten-year-old daughter Asia as well as four-year-old Nooria; and another brother Mopal’s twelve-year-old daughter Somia, eight-year-old son Zahid; and brother Akhtar Gul’s wife.
The political administration and elected representatives didn’t even
condole with the affected family. Abdul Manan said while talking to
media personnel that the government is treating the Mehsud tribe with
sheer discrimination. Thus, those termed as successful army operations
by the government and the international media are often the methods to
suppress and subdue those who come together to voice out their
aggression towards the unjust methods. The term ‘Operation’ has been
losely used as a masking for the agencies to prove their unjust ways and
means to stifle the dissent.
